DAW Setup

Throughline runs as an instrument, an audio effect, or a MIDI processor in AU and VST3 compatible hosts.

Logic Pro

Create a Software Instrument track and choose Throughline Synth from the Audio Units menu, or insert Throughline FX on an audio track for the effect variant. Throughline MIDI appears under MIDI effects on an instrument track.

Logic automatically scans AUs on launch. If a variant is missing, open Plug-in Manager and confirm the plugin is enabled and validated.

Ableton Live

Find the variants under Audio Units on macOS or VST3 on macOS and Windows. Drag Throughline Synth onto a MIDI track, or Throughline FX onto an audio track. Throughline MIDI goes before an instrument on a MIDI track.

If they are missing, open Live preferences, enable the relevant plugin format, and rescan.

Other Hosts

Any AU or VST3 host can load Throughline like a normal instrument or effect. MIDI input, audio output, and host tempo sync are handled by the DAW when available.

If a host does not provide transport information, set the Clock Source to Internal, or set its Host Unavailable param to Use Internal Tempo. See Sequencing and Clock.

MIDI Routing

Use MIDI Input to receive MIDI from the host track. Use MIDI Output when you want to send MIDI back to the host or to another track.

Audio Routing

Use Audio Output to send audio to the host. Use Audio Input when the plugin variant or DAW sidechain is feeding audio into the patch.
