3.5.5. Polyphony or unison
A Polyphony Zone gives each note its own voice. Unison combines two or more oscillators that play the same pitch with a small detune. You can build that thickness with two Oscillators. Then put the pair inside a Zone when you want the same sound on every note of a chord.
- Add two Oscillators and a Mix.
- Connect the same MIDI Decode Pitch output to both Oscillator Pitch input sockets.
- Set one Oscillator’s Detune (Ct) slider to minus seven cents and the other to plus seven cents.
- Connect their Signal output sockets to the Mix Input A and Input B sockets. Then connect Mix to your voice’s Filter or VCA.
- Compare the sound with one Oscillator. Put the whole voice inside a Polyphony Zone to play chords.
Result: two detuned oscillators thicken one note; a Zone gives each chord note its own pair.
Both Oscillators share one base pitch. Detune spreads their frequencies either side of it. Unison describes that layering; polyphony describes the number of independent notes the patch can play. Use both together to give each chord note its own thick voice. The two ideas still stay distinct.
