3.5.2. Shared or per-voice
A Polyphony Zone runs one voice for each note. The cables decide which nodes run per voice and which process the mixed output.
- Put the oscillator, envelope and VCA between Polyphony Input and Polyphony Output.
- Put Delay after Polyphony Output.
- Play a chord and compare the voice with the shared echoes.
Result: the note sources run per voice while one Delay processes their mixed audio.
Everything inside the frame runs once per voice. Everything outside runs once. Decide for each node:
- Per voice: anything that follows each note on its own: oscillator, envelope, the filter whose cutoff follows the envelope, the VCA.
- Shared: anything that processes the mixed sound once: reverb, delay, final EQ, meters and Audio Output. Put these after Polyphony Output. Shared nodes also cost less.
Every voice adds to the output level. Leave headroom by lowering Oscillator Amplitude or the voice's VCA gain. In Build a synth, a three-note chord clips at 50% Amplitude and stays clean at 30%.
