3.5.3. Add nodes, edit live, remove a Zone

A Polyphony Zone runs one voice for each note. The cables decide which nodes run per voice and which process the mixed output.

3.5.3.1. Add nodes to a voice

  1. Connect an LFO to a parameter on a voice node.
  2. Check that the Zone adopts the LFO and grows to include it.
  3. Undo the cable to compare the original voice.

Result: the connected LFO runs per voice while it belongs to the Zone.

Membership comes from cables, not from position. A node belongs to the Zone when it feeds the voice between Polyphony Input and Polyphony Output.

  • Adoption: connect an outside node into a voice node's input and the Zone adopts it. It becomes part of the voice, runs once per note, and the frame grows to include it. An LFO adopted this way gives each note its own cycle.
  • Geometry: dragging a node over the frame, or a voice node outside it, does not change membership. The frame stretches to follow its members.
  • MIDI sources are never adopted. Dropping outside MIDI onto a voice's pitch or gate input routes it through Polyphony Input instead.
  • A node that already feeds a node outside the Zone cannot be adopted. The connection is refused.
  • One Zone at a time: a node belongs to one Zone only. Dragging a voice node into another Zone's voice offers to duplicate it into that Zone or to route through Polyphony Output.

3.5.3.2. Zone limits

  • A Zone takes notes, not audio. It refuses audio from the surrounding patch, and Create Polyphony Zone is unavailable when the selection pulls outside audio into the voice. Build sound sources inside the voice, or keep shared audio after the Zone.
  • Pitch and Gate from Polyphony Input are per-voice signals. Connect them only to nodes inside the Zone, then send results out through Polyphony Output.
  • A Zone cannot contain another Polyphony Zone.
  • A Zone is not a Group: you cannot enter it, and it never appears in breadcrumbs. Its nodes always show on the canvas you are working on.

3.5.3.3. Remove a Zone

Right-click the Zone frame:

  • Dissolve Zone removes the frame and boundary nodes, keeps the voice nodes in place and reconnects them directly. The voice is no longer polyphonic. One undo restores the Zone.
  • Delete zone and contents removes the Zone and its voice nodes.

3.5.3.4. Editing while notes sound

Editing the patch while notes play does not leave notes stuck. If an edit removes or replaces Polyphony Input, every note it held is released once, including pedal-held notes. If the edit keeps it, its voices carry on and still release when you lift the key or the pedal.
